Maria Imaginário is a multidisciplinary artist whose work has been shown internationally in galleries, museums, and art fairs.

Her practice is rooted in personal identity and the emotional world of her sad inner child. Layered and emotionally rich, her work stems from deep feeling and a strong desire to connect with others. It is an ongoing attempt to transform pain and sadness into comfort, softness, and empathy — each piece offering a small gesture of affection.

Maria’s work speaks from heart to heart, inviting moments of pause, emotional recognition, and connection. The duality of emotion and the constant search for balance are deeply present in her work. Maria often experiences emotions in polarised extremes, and although balance remains elusive, her art becomes a space where those opposites are acknowledged and gently held. Lightness and weight, joy and sadness, comfort and unease — all are allowed to coexist without needing to be resolved.

Many of her installation pieces focus on presence and memory-making, offering a gentle counterpoint to the rigidity of everyday life. She works intuitively, guided by colour, softness, and the organic shapes of emotion. Her interest lies in the affective exchange that art allows: how an object can soothe, support, or simply hold space — and how vulnerability can be shared with tenderness.
